Staff Comment

The Joint Travel, Recreation, Wildlife and Cultural Resources Interim Committee is also considering this interim the possibility of expanding the scope of Park Rangers to include them under Title 6 in order to clean up an inconsistency in the statutes.

Park Rangers are presently defined under Title 7, but the absence of their being included under Title 6 has left them unprotected under felony procedures if attacked while carrying out their defined duties.  The legislation under consideration by TRWCR is intended to clarify the status of Park Rangers for this purpose.  They are presently defined as Peace Officers, but not in both statutes.
