Special license plates for firefighters.

A BILL
for
1 AN ACT relating to motor
vehicle license plates;
2 authorizing
special license plates to be issued to
3
firefighters; specifying requirements; and providing for an
4
effective date.

6 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:
7
8 Section 1. W.S. 31-2-218 is created to read:
9
10 31-2-218. Firefighter's license plates.
11
12 (a) A
firefighter employed by a city, county, state
13 or duly created fire protection district or
a volunteer
14 firefighter as defined by W.S. 35-9-601(a)(i)
may apply for
15 distinctive license plates for any motor
vehicle owned by
16 him upon registration of the vehicle. If the
firefighter

became a member of a bonafide fire department after January
2 1,
1995, he shall have a minimum of one (1) year on the
3
fire department and be firefighter one certified or engine
4
boss wildfire certified in order to apply for the license
5
plate. The fire chief or his designated assistant shall
6
sign a written statement that the applicant is eligible to
7
obtain the license plate. These license plates shall be
8
displayed upon the vehicle for which they are issued. The
9
license plates shall bear a distinctive symbol and letters
10 identifying the registrant as a firefighter.

12 (b) Application
for license plates under subsection
13 (a) of this section shall be annually made
to the county
14 treasurer as provided by W.S. 31-2-201. The
written
15 statement of eligibility required under
subsection (a) of
16 this section shall be presented to the
department of
17 transportation before a license plate may be
issued.
18 Application forms shall be available at all
county
19 treasurer's offices. The fee required under
W.S.
20 31-3-102(a)(viii) shall accompany each
application.

22 (c) All
applications for special license plates
23 provided by this section shall be made
directly to the
24 department of transportation at least thirty
(30) days

before registration of the vehicle expires. The department
2 may
prepare any special forms and issue any rules and
3
regulations necessary to carry out this section.

5 (d) A license
plate issued under this section shall
6
meet the Wyoming department of transportation's
7
requirements under W.S. 31-2-217(d) relating to the symbol
8 or
letters appearing on the license plate.

10 Section 2. This act is effective January 1, 2002.
