Mental health insurance parity.

A BILL

 

for

 

 1  AN ACT relating to health insurance; requiring individual
 2  or group health insurance policies issued in the state to
 3  provide coverage for biologically based mental illnesses;
 4  and providing for an effective date.

 5 

 6  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

 7 

 8         Section 1.  W.S. 26-22-601 is created to read:

 9 

10                         ARTICLE 6

11         INSURANCE FOR BIOLOGICALLY BASED MENTAL ILLNESS

12 

13         26-22-601.  Required provision of individual or group
14  policy or contract.

 1         (a)  Any individual or group hospital or medical
 2  insurance policy or hospital service plan contract or
 3  medical service plan contract delivered or issued for
 4  delivery in this state shall provide coverage for the
 5  treatment of biologically based mental illness that is no
 6  less extensive than the coverage provided for any other
 7  physical illness.

 8 

 9         (b)  As used in this section, "biologically based
10  mental illness" means schizophrenia, schizoaffective
11  disorder, bipolar affective disorder, major depressive
12  disorder, specific obsessive-compulsive disorder and panic
13  disorder.

15         Section 2.  This act is effective July 1, 2001.
