Antique motor vehicle license plates.

A BILL

 

for

 

 1  AN ACT relating to motor vehicles; authorizing use of year
 2  of manufacture license plates on vehicles as specified;
 3  imposing a fee; providing limitations; requiring
 4  rulemaking; and providing for an effective date.

 5 

 6  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

 7 

 8         Section 1.  W.S. 31-2-218 is created to read:

 9 

10         31-2-218.  Year of manufacture license plate;
11  requirements; exceptions; fees; rules and regulations.

13         (a)  In lieu of application for a antique motor
14  vehicle license plate under W.S. 31-2-210, any person who
15  owns a vehicle with a model year not less than twenty-five
16  (25) years old that is registered under W.S. 31-2-201 may,

 1  upon application with the county clerk for an annual
 2  registration sticker authorizing such use, display on the
 3  rear of the vehicle an authentic Wyoming license plate
 4  manufactured in the same year as the model year of the
 5  vehicle, provided the numbers and letters on the license
 6  plate are legible, unique and do not conflict with existing
 7  license plate series in the state. The registration sticker
 8  issued by the county treasurer under this section shall
 9  expire on the last day of the annual registration month
10  established for the vehicle when registered pursuant to
11  W.S. 31-2-201. The license plates and registration issued
12  under W.S. 31-2-204 shall be kept with the vehicle and
13  shown to a peace officer upon request.

15         (b)  An owner of a motor vehicle displaying a year of
16  manufacture plate approved under this section is not exempt
17  from any other requirement of this article, except as
18  specifically provided in this section.

20         (c)  In addition to the registration fees for the
21  vehicle under W.S. 31-3-101(a), any applicant for a
22  registration sticker authorizing use of a year of
23  manufacture license plate shall pay an annual fee specified
24  in W.S. 31-3-102(a)(xix).

 2         (d)  The department shall promulgate rules and
 3  regulations to implement this section.

 4 

 5         (e)  The provisions of this section shall not apply to
 6  any vehicle with a maximum gross vehicle weight rating over
 7  sixteen thousand (16,000) pounds.

 9         Section 2.  W.S. 31-3-102(a) by creating a new
10  paragraph (xix) is amended to read:

11 

12         31-3-102.  Miscellaneous fees.

13 

14         (a)  The following fees shall be collected for the
15  instruments or privileges indicated:

16 

17              (xix)  Year of manufacture license plate
18  registration sticker   $15.00

19 

20         Section 3.  This act is effective July 1, 2001.
