School buses-required safety belts.

A BILL
for
1 AN ACT relating to motor
vehicles; directing the state
2 superintendent
to stop rules requiring safety belts in
3
certain buses as specified; and providing for an effective
4
date.

6 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:
7
8 Section 1. W.S. 31-5-118(a) is amended to read:
9
10 31-5-118. Regulations relative to school buses.
11
12 (a) The state
superintendent of public instruction
13 shall adopt and enforce regulations not
inconsistent with
14 this act to govern the design and operation
of all school
15 buses used for the transportation of school
children when
16 owned and operated by any school district or
privately

owned and operated under contract with any school district
2 in
this state and the regulations shall by reference be
3
made a part of any contract with a school district. Rules
4 and regulations promulgated under this subsection shall
5 require any school bus manufactured on or after July 1,
6 2001, to have installed at the time of manufacture safety
7 belts for the bus driver and all bus passengers.
Every
8 school
district, its officers and employees, and every
9 person
employed under contract by a school district shall
10 be subject to the regulations.

12 Section 2. This act is effective July 1, 2001.
