Unemployment insurance-apprenticeships.

A BILL

 

for

 

 1  AN ACT relating to unemployment insurance; authorizing
 2  payment of benefits to individuals who are participating in
 3  apprenticeship programs as specified; and providing for an
 4  effective date.

 5 

 6  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

 7 

 8         Section 1.  W.S. 27-3-307 by creating a new subsection
 9  (d) is amended to read:

10 

11         27-3-307.  Eligibility when enrolled in approved
12  training program; standards for training program approval.

13 

14         (d)  Notwithstanding W.S. 27-3-306(a)(i), (iii) and
15  (iv) or 27-3-311(a)(ii) and (iii) or any federal law
16  relating to availability for, active search for, failure to
17  apply for, refusal to accept suitable work or waiting week

 1  requirements, an eligible individual is eligible for
 2  benefits for any week if he:

 3 

 4              (i)  Is participating in an apprenticeship
 5  program;

 6 

 7              (ii)  Is attending a program of related
 8  instruction when the instruction does not exceed four (4)
 9  weeks during the benefit year of the individual and the
10  attendance in the instruction is required as a condition of
11  the individual's continued employment and shall be
12  considered to be in a program of instruction with the
13  approval of the department;

14 

15              (iii)  Provides the department with a copy of his
16  apprenticeship agreement; and

17 

18              (iv)  Establishes to the satisfaction of the
19  department that the training is scheduled by a work-related
20  entity other than the claimant.

21 

22         Section 2.  This act is effective July 1, 2001.
