School buses-stopping to receive or discharge students.

A BILL

 

for

 

 1  AN ACT relating to school buses; specifying where on a
 2  roadway a school bus shall stop to receive or discharge
 3  children; and providing for an effective date.

 4 

 5  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

 6 

 7         Section 1.  W.S. 31-5-507(b)(intro) is amended to
 8  read:

 9 

10         31-5-507.  Meeting or passing stopped school bus;
11  markings and visual signals.

13         (b)  Every school bus shall bear upon the front and
14  rear thereof plainly visible signs containing the words
15  "school bus" in letters not less than eight (8) inches in
16  height, and in addition shall be equipped with red visual
17  signals meeting the requirements of W.S. 31-5-929, which

 1  shall be actuated by the driver of the school bus whenever
 2  the vehicle is stopped and is receiving or discharging
 3  school children in designated school bus loading areas.
 4  When stopped to receive or discharge school children, the
 5  school bus driver shall keep the bus as far to the right of
 6  the roadway as possible. Except at a crosswalk, no school
 7  bus shall receive or discharge school children upon a
 8  roadway with four (4) or more lanes if the child would be
 9  required to cross a lane. The board of trustees of a school
10  district may waive the requirement in this subsection that
11  school bus drivers actuate visual signals if:

13         Section 2.  This act is effective immediately upon
14  completion of all acts necessary for a bill to become law
15  as provided by Article 4, Section 8 of the Wyoming
16  Constitution.
