Wyoming Pharmacy Technician Act-amendments.

A BILL

 

for

 

 1  AN ACT relating to the Wyoming Pharmacy Technician Act;
 2  amending requirements for pharmacy technicians as
 3  specified; modifying supervision requirements as specified;
 4  amending a definition; repealing definitions; and providing
 5  for an effective date.

 6 

 7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

 8 

 9         Section 1.  W.S. 33-24-301(b)(iii), (d), (e) and
10  (g)(iii) is amended to read:

11 

12         33-24-301.  Pharmacy technicians; licensing;
13  definitions; revocation or suspension of license; letter of
14  admonition.

16         (b)  As used in this section:

 2              (iii)  "Pharmacy technician" means an individual
 3  other than an intern, who performs pharmacy functions under
 4  the direct supervision of assists a licensed pharmacist in
 5  the practice of pharmacy, as defined in W.S. 33-24-124,
 6  under the supervision of the pharmacist and pursuant to
 7  rules and regulations adopted by the board.

 9         (d)  A licensed pharmacist shall be jointly
10  responsible and liable for the actions of a pharmacy
11  technician when direct supervision is required. A licensed
12  pharmacist shall directly supervise no more than two (2)
13  pharmacy technicians at any time the technician is
14  assisting him in the practice of pharmacy.

16         (e)  A pharmacy technician shall register and pay a
17  fee to be licensed by the board before performing any
18  pharmacy functions assisting any pharmacist in the practice
19  of pharmacy. A pharmacy technician license shall be renewed
20  annually upon payment of the required renewal fee and
21  providing such information as the board may require by
22  regulation.

 1         (g)  The board shall promulgate reasonable rules and
 2  regulations necessary to carry out the purposes of this
 3  section including, but not limited to:

 4 

 5            (iii)  Requirements for direct supervision by
 6  licensed pharmacists.

 7 

 8         Section 2.  W.S. 33-24-301(b)(i) and (ii) and (c) is
 9  repealed.

11         Section 3.  This act is effective July 1, 2001.
