A BILL

 

for

 

 1  AN ACT relating to school districts; requiring districts to
 2  excuse students participating in the state fair from school
 3  attendance; and providing for an effective date.

 4 

 5  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

 6 

 7         Section 1.  W.S. 21-3-111(a)(xvi) is amended to read:

 8 

 9         21-3-111.  Powers of boards of trustees.

10 

11         (a)  The board of trustees in each school district
12  within the state may:

13 

14              (xvi)  Define "unexcused absence" and "habitual
15  truancy" for all students who are attending public schools
16  and who have met compulsory attendance requirements, and

 1  establish rules and regulations regarding their attendance.
 2  For purposes of this paragraph, students participating in
 3  the annual state fair held under W.S. 11-10-101 as an
 4  exhibitor shall be considered as participating in a
 5  district cocurricular activity program specified under W.S.
 6  21-9-101(e) and shall be defined by the board as an excused
 7  absence;

 8 

 9         Section 2.  This act is effective July 1, 2001.
