Joint Judiciary Committee Meeting Summary (September 19-20, 2002)

The Joint Judiciary Interim Committee met on September 19 and 20, 2002 in Casper.  The meeting consisted of a working session at which the Committee considered and voted on introduction of bills. The Committee voted to sponsor a bill as a House Bill to provide probation and parole services by contract.  The Committee amended a working draft and voted to sponsor a bill as a Senate File to revise the Adult Community Corrections Act.  The Committee voted to sponsor a bill as a Senate File related to the prison construction program after amending the draft legislation. 

 

The Committee will sponsor amended draft legislation as a House Bill related to the Uniform Trust Code.  The Committee will also sponsor legislation to revise Title 14 as a Senate File.  A number of amendments were drafted related to the Title 14 revision.  The Committee discussed an option to create an Office of Public Advocacy, but declined sponsorship of the proposal. A suggestion was made to present to the Management Audit Committee the possibility of studying the legal representation needs of juveniles and others.  The Committee has completed its work for the 2002 interim and has not scheduled another meeting for 2002.
