Joint Judiciary Committee Meeting Summary (June 19-20, 2003)

The Joint Judiciary Interim Committee met on June 19 and 20, 2003 in Sheridan.  The meeting consisted of a working session at which the Committee considered and voted on introduction of bills.  Although the Committee discussed several bills, the Committee voted to sponsor only one bill as a House Bill to amend the requirements for retention of records in certain judicial proceedings.  The Committee then heard testimony regarding split estates from attorneys, ranchers, homeowners and miners from around the state.

The Committee heard from the Secretary of State and staff from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections about matters relating to corrections in Wyoming.  The Committee also met via video teleconference with other legislators and personnel from the executive branch to review a Department of Family Services plan to improve family services in the state.  The Committee discussed several issues relating to peace officer jurisdiction.  Finally, the Committee voted to consider several bills during the next meeting, including two bills relating to park rangers as peace officers.  The Committee tentatively plans to meet again late in the interim.
