Joint Transportation Committee Meeting Summary (June 19-20, 2003)

The Joint Transportation and Highways Interim Committee met on June 19 and 20, 2003 in Douglas.  The Committee received information about commercial driver’s license regulations, height and weight specifications for trucks, radioactive materials transportation, graduated driver’s licenses for teenagers, requirements for the posting of county speed limits and child restraint compliance.  The Committee was updated on the National Guard and issues regarding homeland security and defense.  The Committee also received an update about concerns regarding a new type of vehicle that does not fit within Wyoming’s statutory scheme.

 

Two subcommittees were formed to study height and weight specifications for trucks and tow truck regulations.  The Committee will address proposed legislation regarding federally mandated changes to the commercial driver’s license regulations at the next meeting.  The Committee also decided to study proposed draft legislation regarding the transportation of radioactive materials.  The Committee will meet again in the fall at a date and location to be determined.
