Catch Title:       Towing of overweight vehicles.

 

Subject:  Authorizes the Director of the Department of Transportation to issue annual overweight towing permits.

 

 

Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Under current law, any towing company that tows disabled oversize vehicles may only tow those vehicles under special permits or under emergency circumstances to the nearest safe location.

 

·        This bill would:

 

·        Authorize the Director of the Department of Transportation to issue an annual overweight towing permit that would allow a tow truck operator to tow a disabled oversized vehicle to the location preferred by the owner of the disabled vehicle;

 

·        Require a permit for each tow truck that tows oversized disabled vehicles.
