of Transportation to issue annual overweight towing permits.
Summary/Major
Elements:

Under current law, any towing company that tows disabled oversize
vehicles may only tow those vehicles under special permits or under emergency
circumstances to the nearest safe location.

This bill would:

Authorize the Director of the
Department of Transportation to issue an annual overweight towing permit that
would allow a tow truck operator to tow a disabled oversized vehicle to the
location preferred by the owner of the disabled vehicle;
·
Require a permit
for each tow truck that tows oversized disabled vehicles.
