Bill No.: HB0072                  Drafter:  JWL

LSO No.:  04LSO-0357.E2           Effective Date:  7/1/2004

Enrolled Act No.:  HEA0017

Chapter No.:       17

Prime Sponsor:     Representative Ross

Catch Title:       Medical support for children.

Subject:  Amends various requirements when a parent ordered to provide health insurance as part of a child support order is eligible for employer-provided health insurance.

Summary/Major Elements:

·        W.S. 20-2-402 imposes obligations on an employer who provides group health insurance when one of its  employees is subject to a child support order requiring health insurance coverage for the employee's child.  This act amends that statute by:

Reducing the employer's time for notifying its group health provider;

Clarifying that the employer may terminate coverage of the child when the employee is no longer working for the employer;

Limiting the grounds upon which an employee may contest the employer's withholding of additional health insurance premium.

·        This act also amends W.S. 20-2-402, which imposes obligations on group health insurance providers in the above situation, by reducing the providers' time to respond to the department of family services when notified of a medical support order.
