Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Under current law, air search and rescue is supervised and coordinated by the Aeronautics Division, Department of Transportation.

 

·        This bill:

 

·        Transfers that authority to the Military Department;

 

·        Authorizes the Military Department to coordinate air search and rescue, after a request from a county sheriff or his designee, with the search and rescue effort supervised by the requesting sheriff or designee.
