Summary/Major
Elements:

The Interstate Compact on
Juveniles was enacted by Wyoming in 1955. The Compact provides procedures for
the management and movement between the states of juvenile offenders.

This bill:

Will replaces the current
Interstate Compact on Juveniles with a new version of the Interstate
Compact for Juveniles;

Creates and specifies the powers and duties of the
Interstate Commission for Juveniles;
·
Specifies obligations and duties of compacting states;
·
Requires an assessment of compacting states for the
operation of the Interstate Commission;
·
Provides procedures for dispute resolution, withdrawal
and re-entry of a compacting state and for the dissolution of the Compact;
·
Authorizes repeal of the Interstate Compact on Juveniles and the effective date for the new version
of the Interstate Compact for Juveniles, both contingent upon
certification by the Governor that at least 34 other states have enacted the
Interstate Compact for Juveniles.
