Subject:  Amends name, duties, composition, terms and authority of the law enforcement communications commission.

 

Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Under current law, the law enforcement communications commission coordinates communications among various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in the state.

 

·        This bill:

 

·        Renames the Commission as the public safety communications commission;

·        Expands the commission from 7 to 17 members;

·        Amends the process for nomination to the commission as specified;

·        Amends the definition of "public safety agency" to include specified emergency management agencies, as well as law enforcement agencies on the state, county, municipal and federal level;

·        Redefines the communications network from a highband system to a wireless system;

·        Determines public safety agencies and private entities that may participate in the network;
