Catch Title:       State parks and sites-evaluation.

 

Subject:  Creates a process for criteria to be applied to lands which are to be designated as a state park, historic or other similar site.

 

Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Requires the department of state parks and cultural resources to develop in consultation with the parks and cultural resources commission a procedure and criteria for acquiring sites as state parks, public recreation grounds, historical parks, and historical, archaeological, geological and ecological sites (outdoor recreation areas).

 

·        The same procedures and criteria are to be applied when a currently designated site is sought to be removed from the outdoor recreation area inventory.

 

·        The department is to initially review a site suggested for designation and, after consultation with the commission, recommend the site to the joint travel, recreation, wildlife and cultural resources interim committee, if the department determines the site should be acquired or designated as a state outdoor recreation area.

 

·        An appropriation is made to the department for expenses under the act.
