Title: Professional health education-amendments.
Subject: Amends
student loan repayment requirements, directs disposition of loan repayments,
imposes fund reporting and requires a recommendation.
Summary/Major
Elements:

Allows the University of Wyoming board of trustees to relieve a student
of educational loan repayment obligations.
·
Law requires physicians (medical students receiving student loans) to
practice in the state for 3 years following graduation for the forgiveness of
their student loan. The bill provides
credit for repayment of a student loan for physicians who practice in the state
at the rate of 1/3 year practice for each year of service in a family practice
residency program in the state.

If the medical student does not serve the required amount of time in a
state residency program, interest will begin to accrue on the student loan not
later than 8 years (up from 4 year) following the date the student enters into
an agreement for the student medical loan.
Interest will begin to accrue if the student withdraws from medical
school or a residency program.
Comments:
· The university shall submit a report to the joint labor, health and social services interim committee on or before October 1 or each year.
