Subject:  Increases threshold amount between misdemeanor and felony theft of property or services.

 

Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Under current law, a misdemeanor penalty for theft of property or services offense can be imposed if the value of the property or services is less than $500.00 and a felony penalty may be imposed if the value is $500.00 or more.

 

·        This bill increases the value of property or services for which a misdemeanor or felony may be imposed for theft of that property or services as follows:

 

·        If the value of the property or services that was stolen is less than $1,000.00, a misdemeanor penalty may be imposed;

 

·        If the value of the property or services that was stolen is less than $1,000.00, a felony penalty may be imposed.
