Delete the standing committee amendment (SF0002HS0001.01/ACE) entirely and further amend as follows:

 

Page 10-After line 18Insert:

 

     "(e)  There is appropriated forty-five thousand dollars ($45,000.00) from the general fund to the legislative service office to purchase personal digital assistants (PDA's) or similar devices to be used by legislators in carrying out their legislative duties and providing service to and on behalf of their constituents. Expenditure of funds under this footnote shall be subject to approval by the select committee on legislative technology. PDA devices being replaced shall be sold in accordance with Management Council directives. Any proceeds received from the sale of such devices shall be deposited into the general fund and are hereby reappropriated to the legislative service office to be used for the purchase of replacement devices.".  GENTILE

Page 10-After line 18Insert:

 

"(e)  There is appropriated forty-five thousand dollars ($45,000.00) from the general fund to the legislative service office to be used to reimburse legislators for the expense of purchasing cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDA's) or similar devices necessary for carrying out their legislative duties and providing service to and on behalf of their constituents, subject to the following:

 

(i)  The amount of reimbursement to any legislator shall not exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00);

 

(ii)  Expenses shall be reimbursed upon submission to the legislative service office of a verified claim form and purchase receipt;

 

(iii)  Unexpended funds appropriated under this subsection shall revert to the general fund on July 1, 2006;

 

(iv)  When the legislator's term expires or when the legislator does not return for the completion of his term, the legislator shall return any device purchased under this subsection to the legislative service office for disposal as determined by the select committee on legislative technology.".  OSBORN

"Section 7.  The Select Committee on Legislative Facilities shall study the options for opening the skylights in the House and Senate Chambers to natural sunlight and report its recommendations to the Management Council prior to the 2005 general session of the Legislature.  There is appropriated to the Legislative Service Office fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) from the general fund for administrative expenses, consultant and other services to perform the study under this section.".
