FISCAL NOTE

The fiscal impact of penalties for violations is indeterminable due to an unknown number of cases.

According to the Office of State Lands and Investments, if this legislation is effective in preventing resource damage or results in restitution being paid for resource damages, then the value of the trust asset and its appreciation and revenue generating potential would be preserved.

According to the State Forestry Division, timber trespass is a fairly rare occurrence. Because they attempt to work with leasees and timber sale purchasers to prevent it, the State Forestry Division would not expect any fiscal impact.
