FISCAL NOTE

 

The fiscal impact is indeterminable, as it is dependent upon; 1) the number of peace officers and emergency medical technicians who die in the line of duty on or after July 1, 2006, and 2) the number of their qualifying surviving dependents.

 

According to the Department of Health, since records have been kept beginning in 1992, there have been three emergency medical technicians who have died in the line of duty (roughly, an average of one every four and one-half years).

 

According to information provided by the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy, there have been 14 peace officers who have died in the line of duty since 1979 (roughly, an average of one every two years).

 

The cost of tuition and fees per student at the University of Wyoming is estimated at $1,475 per semester ($2,950 per year) for FY 2007, and is estimated to increase roughly 3.5 percent per year. The cost of tuition and fees per student at the community colleges is estimated at $933 per semester ($1,866 per year) for FY 2007, and is estimated to increase by 3.5% per year.
