SELECT COMMITTEE ON TRIBAL
RELATIONS

Topic #1: Governmental Issues:
1. Tribal
Liaison positions;
2. Gambling;
3. Development
of inter-governmental relationships.
The
Committee will be working with the two tribal liaisons to develop immediate
action plans and a long-term state-tribal policy as provided under 2005 Senate
Enrolled Act 57. The Committee will
consider tribal accords from various states in developing the short and
long-term policies. The Committee will
continue to follow the gambling issues with both tribes and will consider
strategies to improve inter-governmental relationships to lessen discrimination
and to increase trust between the State and the Tribes
Topic #2: Services Issues:
1. Education;
2. Health;
3. Communications.
The
Committee will consider the funding issues relating to the Bureau of Indian
Affairs schools and the feasibility of incorporating the Bureau of Indian
Affairs schools into the Wyoming system of public school finance as provided by
2006 HB0139. The Committee will
continue to consider the health care on the reservation. The Committee will consider solutions to the
problem of citizens afflicted with cancer receiving adequate pain control
prescriptions and will consider the issue of communications regarding coverage
and having long distance between close communities.
Topic
#3: Water Issues:
1. Water Projects;
2. Conservation/Improvement District.
The
Committee sponsored a resolution in support of the Ray Lake Enlargement
project. The Committee will consider
the priority of water projects and the adequacy of water delivery systems on
the reservation.
Topic #4: Meetings.
1. 6th Annual Native American Business Expo, Fort Washakie,
WY;
2. Congressional
meeting, Washington, DC.
The
Committee will meet with Tribal leaders and Senator Enzi at the 6th
Annual Native American Business Expo March 22, 2006 in Fort Washakie, Wyoming.
The
Committee will coordinate a meeting with various tribal officials to discuss
topics of interest, including health, education and water issues and requests
travel for at least two (2) Committee members to travel with the tribes
to meet with Wyoming's congressional delegation in Washington, D.C. The topics and travel will be coordinated
with both tribes. [Note:
Management Council limited travel to 2 members, expenses to be paid from the legislative
out-of-state travel budget]
