FISCAL NOTE

This bill contains an appropriation of $2,500,000 from the GENERAL FUND. The appropriation is effective immediately.

Discussion of appropriation:

The above appropriation will be used for payments to hospitals for unreimbursed trauma care.

Assumptions:

The previous appropriation, 2005 SF 77 ('05 Laws, Ch.160), of $2,500,000 was dispersed between 17 of the state’s 25 acute care hospitals that applied for and met the criteria for reimbursement.  The initial appropriation was expended in less than three months.  The two largest hospitals each received the maximum of 24% or $625,000 each with the remaining $1,250,000 being spent between the remaining 15 hospitals that applied and met the criteria for reimbursement.

The proposed appropriation in this bill will be expended until gone, which will likely be the first year of the 09-10 biennium.
