Inmate medical furlough.

FISCAL NOTE

The fiscal impact is indeterminable due to an unknown number of cases.

Source of Expenditure Decrease:

The Department of Corrections may realize a decrease in expenditures relating to an inmate who is granted medical parole.  Any decrease will depend upon the nature of the inmate's medical issues and care required.  The Department would still incur the costs of supervision, but it is anticipated that such costs would be less than those of incarceration.  Each instance of a grant of medical parole would have to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine whether the Department would realize any expenditure decrease.

Assumptions:

There are no current measures that would allow for an accurate prediction of the number of individuals who would be granted medical parole.
