Catch Title:       Crime victims' compensation.

Subject:  Increases crime victims compensation surcharges.

Summary/Major Elements:

· Current law provides for a surcharge on criminal fines for the benefit of the crime victims compensation account.

· This act changes the surcharges as follows:

FOR	OLD	NEW
Municipal ordinance violations	$50 minimum	$100-$300
All state crimes and motor vehicle violations – first offense	$100 minimum	$150-$350
All state crimes and motor vehicle violations – second and subsequent offenses	N/A	$200-$400

· This act also authorizes the victim services division of the attorney general's office to initiate contempt and collection proceedings regarding crime victim compensation surcharges.
