Subject:  Creates a Wyoming Court Security Commission.

 

Summary/Major Elements:

ˇ         This bill:

ˇ         Creates a Wyoming Court Security Commission under the supervision of the Wyoming Supreme Court;

ˇ         Specifies Commission membership of 10 persons, including the Director of the Office of Homeland Security, a justice of the Supreme Court, a district court judge, a circuit court judge, a county commissioner, a county sheriff, a representative of the POST Commission, 2 legislators and a district attorney;

ˇ         Specifies duties of the Commission to establish standards; make recommendations for court security for each county; and recommendations to the Legislature as to how funds should be distributed to counties from any appropriations that may be made for court security;

ˇ         Requires a report to the Governor, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Joint Judiciary Interim Committee and the Joint Appropriations Interim Committee by September 1, 2009, and annually thereafter, on the status of court security in Wyoming;

ˇ         Provides an appropriation to the Supreme Court to pay expenses of non-legislative members of the Commission and an appropriation to LSO for the expenses of the legislative members of the Committee.
