Summary/Major Elements:

●    Under existing law, a person found guilty of obtaining possession of or a prescription for a controlled substance through the alteration of a prescription is guilty of a misdemeanor for a first offense.

●    This bill amends the statutes to specify that a person found guilty of obtaining possession of or a prescription for a controlled substance through the alteration or forgery of a prescription is guilty of a felony.  The bill also provides that first time offenders under that section may be placed on probation and have further proceedings dismissed.
