Source of expenditure increase:
Increasing the number of school days will require the busing of students to and from school. This will increase the student transportation costs reimbursed to school districts pursuant to W.S. 21-13-320.
The cost differential between student/teacher contact days and professional development days is indeterminable.
Assumptions:
According to the Wyoming Department of Education, in school year 2009-10, school districts buses traveled 77,373 miles per day. The cost per mile in school year 2009-10 was $3.16. The cost per day is estimated to be $244,499. By increasing school days by five days, the estimated cost increase to the transportation reimbursement would be an estimated $1,222,493, using school year 2009-10 expenditures.
