Description of Appropriation:
The next ranked approved community project in the Department of Transportation's priority rating model for Railroad quiet zones would be selected for this funding.
In addition, the Railroad Quiet Zone program requires a matching percentage from the county depending on the level of assessed valuation. At most this would be a 75 percent match from the counties with the eight highest assessed valuations. This could result, at most, in an additional $375,000 expenditure increase at the county level as a result of the match. Each year, a $10,000 expenditure increase at the county level would be incurred for the upkeep and maintenance on the equipment for each railroad quiet zone installation.
