Description of Appropriation:
The funds will be used to purchase a 23-region, 169-sector, economic model from REMI. This model will complement the existing REMI Policy Insight Model (single-region state). The cost to construct the 23-region model was quoted as of 11/08/10 at $187,500, and $53,500 for maintenance for FY 2012.
Currently, the Economic Analysis Division serves as the central depository of economic and demographic data relative to the operation of state government, and performs statistical/economic/demographic research, and economic analysis for state agencies. Expanding the scope of the Division to include these same duties and responsibilities for county governments will require, at a minimum, one additional employee, classified as an Economic Analyst (FIEC 09). The estimated 0100 personnel/benefit costs (salary at Grade L, General Pay Table, March 1, 2010, Market Policy Position) would be approximately $5,700 for FY 2011 (one month) and $68,000 for FY 2012. This analyst will assist other Division economists in the responsibilities of developing uniform criteria, collecting, analyzing, reporting and distributing economic data for all Wyoming counties related to public land issues as identified by tribal, state, and local governments, as well as other federal agencies, working as cooperating agencies in the preparation of environmental impact statements, as well as assist on other division projects as needed.
