Source of Expenditure Increase:
The legislation will result in the agency paying Workers’ Compensation for volunteers as they provide a service for State Parks Historic Sites & Trails. As of July 1, 2011, the agency will pay $2.36 per month per volunteer. The rate is set by Workers’ Compensation and could vary annually. We estimate there were approximately 463 volunteers for calendar year (CY) 2010. We hope to increase this amount to 500 in CY 2011, 750 in CY 2012 and 1,000 CY 2013. The Workers’ Compensation amount will be paid from existing 100 series seasonal budgets. No appropriation is being requested by the Department of Parks and Cultural Resources.
Assumptions:
The agency assumes the increase in the fiscal impact amount is due to an increase in the number of volunteers. In May, the agency hired a Volunteer Coordinator for State Parks Historic Sites & Trails who is specifically charged with recruiting more volunteers for the agency.
