Summary/Major Elements:

 

       Local governments have historically been required to conduct extensive engineering studies before being authorized to change default speed limits on local roadways. 

 

       This bill allows local governments to alter speed limits pursuant to rules adopted by the Wyoming Department of Transportation;

 

       Extends the default 30 m.p.h. speed limit to residential districts and subdivisions, except roads designated as private roads pursuant to W.S. 18-5-306(a)(vii);

 

       Establishes a default of 65 m.p.h. for all paved roadways and 55 m.p.h. for all unpaved roadways not otherwise covered.
