Uranium research center funds extension.

12LSO-0091.C1

FISCAL NOTE

During the 2009 legislative session, $1,600,000 of abandoned mine land (AML) funds were appropriated to the School of Energy Resources for the uranium research center (2009 session laws, chapter 159, section 339(c)(iii)). This bill extends the reversion date for for these funds to June 30, 2015.

Extension of the reversion date would allow the previously appropriated abandoned mine land (AML) funds to be expended in future fiscal years.

Of the $1.6 million original appropriation, approximately $250,000 has been expended and $750,000 is committed for four research projects. Therefore, $1 million is expected to be expended by the current June 30, 2013 reversion date.

This legislation will allow the remaining funds (about $580,000) to be expended on research for in situ recovery of uranium.  It is assumed that half of this amount will be expended in each of the next two fiscal years.
