Catch Title:       Budget hearings.

Subject:           Setting dates for public hearings on budgets for local governments.

Summary/Major Elements:

· Under current law, hearings on budget for counties, cities and towns, school districts and special districts are required to be held on specific dates.

· This act provides that those hearings may be held not later than a specific date, giving the local government flexibility in setting the actual date for the budget hearing.

· Under this act budget hearings must be held:

· For counties, not later than the third Monday in July;

· For cities and towns, not later than the third Tuesday in June;

· For school districts and community college districts, not later than the third Wednesday in July; and

· For all other special purpose districts having the power to levy taxes, not later than five days after the third Thursday in July (unless held in conjunction with the county hearing).
