Summary/Major Elements:

· Under current law, if a vacancy occurs in the office of a member of the legislature due to a resignation of a person who represented a political party, the state central committee of the political party he represented arranges a meeting of precinct committeepersons at which those precinct committeepersons select a list of three people qualified to fill the vacancy.  Only those persons serving as precinct committeepersons at least 30 days prior to the vacancy may vote at that meeting.

· This Act provides that, if the vacancy occurs within 30 days after a primary election, the precinct committeepersons allowed to vote will include precinct committeepersons elected at that primary.
