Summary/Major Elements:

 

ˇ          This bill increases the total tax on gasoline and diesel fuels from fourteen cents per gallon to twenty-four cents per gallon.

 

ˇ          The bill also increases distributions of gasoline tax revenues to state parks and cultural resources an equivalent amount based on the increase to the gasoline tax.

 

ˇ          The bill specifies that until June 30, 2014, funds attributable to the fuel tax increase shall be separately accounted and shall only be expended to maintain the highway system in its condition as of July 1, 2013, and to prepare a report to the joint appropriations interim committee and the joint transportations, highways and military affairs interim committee.

 

Comments:  

 

ˇ          The bill requires the department of transportation to provide a comprehensive report to the joint appropriations interim committee and the joint transportations, highways and military affairs interim committee not later than November 1, 2013, on the condition of the state highway system and the projected revenue requirements to maintain the current condition of the state highway system.
