Catch Title:              Immunization by pharmacists.

 

Subject:                     Authorizes pharmacists to administer immunizations to additional individuals.

 

 

Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        Current law allows pharmacists to prescribe and administer immunizations for adults to the extent authorized by the Board of Pharmacy.

 

·        This act authorizes pharmacists to prescribe and administer immunizations for individuals aged seven and older, subject to the following:

 

o   The pharmacist maintains a private space, as defined by Board rules, for counseling and administration to ensure safety and confidentiality;

 

o   Parental consent is obtained for administration to children;

 

o   The pharmacist enters appropriate data in the Department of Health’s immunization registry;

 

o   No pharmacist shall be required to, and no employer shall discriminate against a pharmacist who determines not to, administer immunizations to individuals under age 13.
