Catch Title:              Atomic Energy Act agreement state study.

 

Subject:                     Commissioning a study to determine the feasibility of Wyoming becoming an agreement state under the Atomic Energy Act.

 

Summary/Major Elements:

 

·        This act directs the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), in consultation with the Attorney General’s Office and the Governor’s Office, to commission a study to determine the feasibility of managing a radiation protection program that is consistent with federal law.

 

·        The study should focus on statutory, regulatory and budgetary changes necessary for Wyoming to become an agreement state under the Atomic Energy Act of 1954.

 

·        Provides $100,000 to DEQ to commission the study.

 

·        States that the Joint Minerals, Business and Economic Development Interim Committee may sponsor legislation in the 2014 budget session necessary for Wyoming to become an agreement state under the Atomic Energy Act.

 

Comments:

 

·        Requires a report from DEQ to the Joint Minerals, Business and Economic Development Interim Committee on the Atomic Energy Act study by December 1, 2013.
