Catch Title:              Stroke and heart attack treatment centers.

Subject:                     Directs Department of Health to designate certain hospitals as heart and stroke treatment centers.

Summary/Major Elements:  This act:

· Directs the Department of Health to establish a process for the recognition and designation of hospitals as:

o Heart attack receiving centers;

o Heart attack referring centers;

o Comprehensive stroke centers; and

o Primary stroke centers.

· Provides that designation shall recognize hospitals accredited by nationally recognized organizations as determined by the Department in its rules;

· Directs the Department to provide support in its rules for coordination among designated hospitals to facilitate appropriate care for acute heart attack and stroke patients.
