Alternative schools.

14LSO-0085.C1

FISCAL NOTE

The fiscal impacts, in the form of increased expenditures related to the education resource block grant model and increased expenditures related to school capital construction, are indeterminable.

The bill allows for the creation of additional alternative schools. There would be an additional incremental cost to the education resource block grant model to fund alternative schools due to minimum staffing requirements for school personnel and additional operations and maintenance funding. However, since the number of alternative schools, the time frames of their creation, and the number of students that would attend these schools are unknown, the additional incremental costs of new alternative schools cannot be determined.

This bill would also require alternative schools to be included in a school district's five year school facilities plan, which could ultimately result in increased school capital construction expenditures. Similarly, since the number of alternative schools, the need for additional facilities, the time frame of potential construction, and the number of students that would attend these schools are unknown, this potential increased cost of school capital construction cannot be determined.
