Catch Title:              Funeral Service Practitioners Act.

Subject:                     Licensing of funeral service practitioners.

Summary/Major Elements:

· Under current law, embalmers, funeral directors, morticians and crematories are regulated and licensed by the board of embalmers.

· This bill reconstitutes the board of embalmers as the board of funeral service practitioners.

· The bill updates the statutes regulating the licensing of funeral service practitioners and establishments, including embalmers, crematories, mortuaries and funeral homes.

· The bill repeals separate licensure of funeral directors, but authorizes those licensed prior to July 1, 2014, to continue to be responsible for the operations of licensed funeral establishments without new licensure as a funeral service practitioner.

· The bill increases the education requirements for licensure and updates archaic language in the statutes.

· The bill provides standards for cremation containers and regulates chemical disposition facilities.
