Subject:                     Requires new care plan by Department of Health.

Summary/Major Elements:

· This act enacts W.S. 35-25-301, a new public health statute directing the Department of Health to develop a plan to reduce the incidence of diabetes in Wyoming, improve diabetes care and control complications associated with diabetes.

Requires Report:  The diabetes care plan shall be submitted to the Labor Committee by 10/1/14.

· The new statute directs the Department of Health to report every odd-numbered year through 2021 on:

o The prevalence and cost of diabetes;

o Effectiveness of diabetes control measures;

o Coordination among the department, other agencies and tribes on managing, treating and preventing diabetes;

o Legislative action plans;

o The impact of gestational diabetes on the Medicaid population;

o A budget blueprint for implementation of the diabetes care plan.
