                                     A BILL
                                        
                                       for

 1  AN ACT relating to motor vehicle license plates; authorizing

 2  special license plates to be issued to firemen; specifying

 3  requirements; and providing for an effective date.

 4

 5  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Wyoming:

 6

 7       Section 1.  W.S. 31-2-218 is created to read:

 8     

 9       31-2-218.  Firemen's license plates.

10

11  (a)  A fireman employed by a city or duly created fire

12  protection district, a volunteer fireman as defined by W.S.

13  35-9-601(a)(i) or a retired firefighter may apply for

14  distinctive license plates for any motor vehicle owned by

15  him upon registration of the vehicle.  These license plates

16  shall be displayed upon the vehicle for which they are

 1  issued. The license plates shall bear a distinctive symbol

 2  and letters identifying the registrant as a fireman.

 3

 4       (b)  Application for license plates under subsection

 5  (a) of this section shall be annually made to the county

 6  treasurer as provided by W.S. 31-2-201. Application forms

 7  shall be available at all county treasurer's offices. The

 8  normal registration fees and the fee required under W.S.

 9  31-3-102(a)(viii) shall accompany each application.

11       (c)  All applications for special license plates

12  provided by this section shall be made directly to the

13  county treasurer at least thirty (30) days before

14  registration of the vehicle expires.  The department may

15  prepare any special forms and issue any rules and

16  regulations necessary to carry out this section.

18       Section 2.  This act is effective January 1, 2000.
