JOINT EDUCATION INTERIM COMMITTEE

 

Standard Budget:     $40,000.00

Additional Budget:  $25,000.00 authorized by 2012 SF 0002 for Priority #4

 

Priority #: 1     Monitoring of the education resource block grant model.

 

Wyoming Statute 21-13-309(u) requires components of the education resource block grant model be monitored between periods of model recalibration.  The Committee will receive reports and information from the legislative service office in reference to this statutory mandate and report recommendations to the Joint Appropriations Committee by October 15, 2012.

 

Priority #: 2     Utilization of natural gas fueled buses.

 

The Committee will receive information and reports related to buses that utilize natural gas as a fuel source. Specifically, the Wyoming Department of Education will provide the Committee with the following information related to use of natural gas buses by Wyoming school districts: fuel economy and cost as compared to buses utilizing other types of fuel, any potential cost savings,  and current and possible locations for fueling centers. Priority #: 3     Energy literacy and agriculture in the classroom.

 

The Committee will receive reports from appropriate officials on the energy literacy in the classroom project and the agriculture in the classroom program.

 

Priority #: 4     Wyoming Accountability in Education Act.

 

The Committee members may attend the meetings of the Select Committee on Statewide Education Accountability for informational purposes and to participate in discussions regarding the work to be undertaken in Phase II as required by the Wyoming Accountability in Education Act.

 

Additional Budget Request:  Supplemental funding to compensate members for attendance at these meetings has been proposed in 2012 Senate File 0002.

 

Priority #: 5     Reduction of reporting requirements.

 

The Committee will receive information and a report from the State Superintendent on duplicative or redundant reporting requirements.  The report will include recommendations for statutory and regulatory revisions to decrease duplicative or redundant reports.
