2012 INTERIM

 

JOINT TRAVEL, RECREATION, WILDLIFE AND CULTURAL RESOURCES INTERIM COMMITTEE

 

Standard Budget:     $37,500.00

Priority #: 1     State Parks & Cultural Resources

 

1.  Concessions - The committee proposes to study management of concessions on state parks and historic sites.

 

2.  Trails Program - The committee proposes to study issues related to the state trails program, including funding mechanisms and management.

 

3.  Site Criteria Process Recommendations - The committee is required to review any proposal for addition of lands to the state parks system.  The committee lists this topic in case such a proposal is brought by the department.

 

4.  Monuments & Markers Program - The committee will receive a report and presentation about the current monuments and markers program.  The committee does not anticipate any legislation to come from this topic.

 

Priority #: 2     Game and Fish Department

 

1.  Funding and Revenues - The committee proposes to review the complex funding sources available to the department and to consider issues relating to increasing revenues, including issues related to recruitment and retention of hunters and anglers.

 

2.  Disabled Hunter Programs - The committee proposes to review the various programs designed to encourage hunting by disabled persons and consider additional solutions to such programs.

 

3.  Program Reports - The committee proposed to continue to receive reports from the department on endangered/threatened species and aquatic invasive species.

 

4.   Seasons and Bag Limits - The committee proposes to receive a presentation from the department on how seasons and bag limits are set for mountain lions and wolves.

 

Priority #: 3     Tourism

 

The committee will receive the annual report on the tourist season and an update on the department's master plan.

 

Priority #: 4     Emergency Topics as Necessary

 

The committee requests the ability to retain the authority to receive reports, study or draft legislation in relation to any topic or emergency that may be presented by the various agencies that fall under the purview of the committee.

 

Priority #: 5     Tentative Meeting Schedule

 

The committee proposes three two-day meetings as follows:

June 26 & 27:  Rock Springs, WY

late August:  Jackson, WY

November 6 & 7:  Guernsey, WY
