Internship Duties

Interns perform a variety of duties for legislators and committees including:  bill summarization and analysis, spot research, in-depth research, constituent services, writing news releases, speech writing, bill tracking, file maintenance, drafting floor arguments, and performing administrative tasks.

Preparing research and providing staff assistance to legislators and committees is only a portion of the internship experience.  In addition, interns are expected to observe committee hearings and floor debates to truly gain an understanding of, and appreciation for, the legislative process.  The LSO also arranges a series of weekly required seminars designed to familiarize interns with many facets of state government.
