Interim Activities

During the interim between each session, committees of the legislature meet to analyze issues and prepare legislation for committee sponsorship. Joint interim committees consist of like standing committees from each house, e.g. Senate Judiciary and House Judiciary, which meet jointly as a single committee. These interim committees consider topics for interim study which are approved by the Management Council generally at the conclusion of the preceding session.

Sometimes subcommittees of these interim committees are appointed to do preliminary work and then report to the full committee. Select and other committees are often created by law or by appointment of the Management Council for a specified purpose. They, too, meet during the interim to prepare reports or information.
